Tutoring Source

Midwest Learning Group (MLG) offers a wide range of academic subjects. The MLG program focuses on the students individual and immediate needs. Once the students (NEEDS) are recognized the MLG coach will create a tailored plan of development for the specific student. We are strategically located in inner city Chicago and tutor our students from our headquarters using various media conference platforms. Normally we send our MLG teachers to district schools but due to current CDC restrictions, the Zoom platform would be MLG’s alternate option. The on-site option is readily available to accommodate organizations and institutions.

For the Atkinson-based courses, MLG offers an extensive collection of past exams which are invaluable for teaching the material for exam preparation. We primarily focus on STEM related topics and use system analysis frameworks (SAFs). This unique problem-solving approach is taught to our students as well.

Computer Skills Training

We teach basic computer skills which includes knowing how to type, understanding social media, and having general web skills. There are several other skills to consider, such as:

Life Skills

Life skills are based on executive functions; they bring together our social, emotional, and cognitive capacities to problem solve and achieve goals. Studies have found they are critical to success in school and life.

Focus & Self Control

Students require this skill to achieve goals and self-expectations. This includes but not limited to paying attention, exercising self-control, remembering the rules and flexible thought.

Accepting Another Perspective

Understanding what others think and feel, which developed the basis for students’ understanding of the intentions of parents, teachers, and friends. Students with this skill are less likely to get involved in conflict.

Communicating

Communicating is the skill of determining what one wants to convey and acknowledging how it will be perceived or understood by others. It is a skill that instructors and employers believe is typically lacking.

Making Connections

This life skill is at the center of active learning: developing the ability to assess and determine what is the same, what is different, and organizing them into categories. Making unusual connection is at the core of creativity and moves students beyond knowing information to using information well.

Critical Thinking

This skill helps students analyze and evaluate information to guide their beliefs, decisions, and actions. Children need critical thinking to make sense of the world around them and to solve problems.

Taking On Challenges

Students who take on challenges head-on instead of avoiding or simply coping with them, achieve more in school and in life.

Self-Directed, Engaged Learning

By setting goals and strategies for learning, students become attuned and better prepared to change as the world changes. This helps students foster their innate curiosity to learn and helps them realize their innate potential.

Situational Awareness

A student’s perception of environmental elements and events with respect to time or space, the comprehension of their meaning, and the projection of their future status. “That gut feeling”.

Interviewing Skills

Your qualifications and skills may not be enough. In order to get noticed, MLG will spend time to help develop a few key interviewing skills. By learning to form an authentic connection with the interviewer and clearly articulating your value to the company, you will move one step closer to the job you want.

Resource Management

Resource management requires a thorough understanding of and transparency into your objectives and capacity. By establishing a good process for resource management planning, you’re maximizing efficiency and overseeing the utilization of one’s resources.

What is resource management? Resource management is the process of pre-planning, scheduling, and allocating your resources to maximize efficiency. What if you were going on vacation for a week, what three items would you take? Got everything? Great! You have just practiced resource managing. You have a goal (to survive), and you must decide how to accomplish that goal with as few resources as possible (three items).

Student Mentoring Source

We create a personal development relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable coach helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person. The mentor may be older or younger but have a certain area of expertise. MLG mentors practice the 3 key roles of a mentor and mentee relationship.

Green Living

The biggest benefit is obviously the environmental benefits that come with green, healthy living. Actions such as recycling, pollution reduction, nature conservation, and plant/tree cultivation will all create a much more sustainable world for us and our future generations. MLG offers multiple ways and strategies on how to become green-conscious and less wasteful.

Fitness & Health Awareness

MLG coaches help individuals make the connection between lifestyle choices and health conditions along with the benefits of a healthy lifestyle as the basis of developing good health. The goal is to help implement new changes into one’s life.
